Abstract

This paper explores the varieties of professionalism and the tensions of diverse patterns of professionalism between exclusion and social inclusion. The aim of research is to highlight an innovative potential of professionalism for the modernization of healthcare systems
and the role of the state to target this potential. The transformations of the corporatist system of stakeholder regulation bring new patterns of professionalism and a potential for modernization of heàlth care beyond marketization and managerialism into view. The findings of research highlights the f lexibility and power of professionalism in the German health system.
