Social context of HIV / AIDS epidemic in Russia

Abstract

At the present time the prevention of HIV / AIDS is one of the priority tasks of state policy in Russia. At the same time there is not enough attention to the social processes connected with HIV/AIDS epidemic in the sociological science. The article deals with AIDS as social problem. The development of AIDS epidemic in Russia is considering on the base of epidemiological data as well as social and political factors such as law, state policy, NGOs. The conclusion is that it’s necessary to include the social work in HIV/AIDS prevention.
