Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of transformation of gender arrangements and sexual sphere in post-Soviet societies, namely in Tajikistan. The research is based on a series of in-depth interviews with urban citizens of Hudjand (formerly Leninabad). The studies of gender arrangements of private sphere and sexual relations in Tajikistan has demonstrated rather stable patriarchal structures, which have organized the lives of men and women. At the same time, during Soviet times the modernized patterns of behavior have been interiorized by local women. The narratives on everyday life represent both patriarchal relations and certain degree of liberalization.
