Rural poverty in Tajikistan and development projects

Abstract

The article is devoted to a problem of rural poverty. In the first part the basic concepts by means of which the problem of poverty is investigated are analyzed. In the second part data about modern Tajikistan are cited, allowing to see a context of a problem of rural poverty. The third part contains data of the poverty monitoring which has been carried out in Phase I of Zerafshan Regional Initiative Project. This project funded by Department for International Development of UK Government. Today in Tajikistan many similar projects are carried out, therefore in the article achievements and the risks accompanying them are considered. The author in 2005–2006 worked in the international projects directed on reducing poverty. She has developed and has tested a technique of monitoring of rural poverty in Tajikistan.
